PUNJAB - AN INTRODUCTION
If there is any state in India, where people are as peaceful as they are progressive, it's Punjab. Welcome to the land of prosperity. It's one of the border states of India. And the word Punjab stands for : Five Rivers, that used to flow in Punjab. That may be the impetus. Like moving water, it's populace is known for its peaceful progress. From agriculture to industrial development, Punjab's contribution to the country's growth has always been phenomenal.
The land is also associated with ten sikh gurus. Obviously, Punjabi culture prevails among all the people of Punjab, though the population is almost equally divided between Hindus (another religion) and sikhs. However, interpersonal bonds are very strong between the two communities. A manifestation lies in the fact that even among the days of terror, when Punjab terrorists used to target both the communities, there was never a breach in the two communities' relationships. Also, the inter-community marriages and other celebrations have always been quite frequent. Even the worship temples are common.
Today, Punjab has almost come out of the days of trouble. And, is once again on the progress path. Let's wish it success in its endeavour for growth.
