On July 10, 1991, a Police patrol vehicle was blown up near village Lalpur in Tarn Taran area of Punjab at about 11 P.M. The blast severly damaged the light commercial vehicle and in this incident, 3 Police personnel died and 7 others were seriously injured.
Examination of the scene of crime and the explosion residues lead to the conclusion that the terrorists had used about 2 Kgs. of RDX which resultantly produced a crater of about 10 feet diameter with 4 feet depth.
A horrifying feature of this incident was the fact that another group of militants had laid an ambush on a Police Post where firing was going on for hours. This vehicle was rushing additional force which was trapped with well calculated move through an intricate system of trip wire/mouse trap in conjunction with batteries and wires.
Mindless violence and brutality was purposely commited repeatedly by Punjab terorists to attempt demoralisation in security and police cadres. However, the discipline, nationalism and sense of duty in forces in Punjab did not succumb.
