Sh.Tiwana, a Senior Police officer was killed while he was on way to a social function with his daughter and wife. In this incident, three Improvised Explosive Devices were planted in hollow cement pipe-pillars on the side of the road. These pillars having 30 cms, internal diameter and 60 cm height were a regular fixture on road side to show culverts etc. While the vehicle was passing in front of the area covered by explosive devices, 3 I.E.Ds planted over a stretch of 30 meters exploded simultaneously. These were blasted through a lead wire and batteries. The blasts had devastating effect in which the Supdt. of Police, his daughter and one gunman died on the spot and two persons including his wife were seriously injured. In another car passing that spot at the same time, one person died and another was seriously injured. Both the cars were badly damaged. This was a sophisticated multiple blast arrangement on a road carried out by Punjab terrorists. The purpose of such incidents was to create a reign of terror.
